About This Spot

Stepping into Core's Tavern is like slipping into a well-worn neighborhood retreat where time gently slows down. Tucked away on Franklin Street in Bloomfield, this bar welcomes you with quiet confidence—the kind of place where familiar faces mix with newcomers seeking a relaxed refuge from the everyday hustle.

The mood here is unhurried and low-lit, casting a soft glow across classic tavern woodwork and a historic back bar that whispers stories from a bygone era. Vintage touches, like the salvaged Waldorf Hotel bar, give the space a subtle richness that feels lived-in but never stuffy. Whether you settle into one of the roomy booths or lean against the bar, the atmosphere invites genuine connection without forcing it.

There’s a timeless rhythm to an evening at Core’s. Early on, conversations blend with the occasional tune from the jukebox, while back patio seating offers a quiet nook to watch the world pass by with a Blue Moon Belgian White or a smooth martini in hand. Later, especially come weekend nights, live music gently pulses through the room, grounding the experience without taking over.

This is less a spot that demands attention and more one that earns it by being dependable—the kind of bar where bartenders know your name, where the crowd is welcoming yet unpretentious, and where you can lose track of time in good company. Core’s Tavern doesn’t rush you along; instead, it lets you settle in, slow down, and savor the simple pleasure of being present.

Having lived only 5 years here in the Garden State (a transplant from CT) I have graced Core's once or twice. Areal comfortable atmosphere, nice large booths in which to relax, and friendly bartenders to take care of you. I like it there.

Drinks are cheaper than most bars and the crowd is mixed but respectful. No live music, but there is a jukebox and there’s a patio in the back with seating. Definitely a good vibe. Busiest after 9/10pm. Although they don’t serve food, you can bring food in. Still rate it 5 stars.

Fantastic live music on Saturday nights. Classic tavern decor including a historic back bar salvaged from the old Waldorf Hotel in NYC. Managed by the friendly third generation owner from the founding family.

If you live locally and you are looking to escape than this is the place the for you. This place is quiet and dark inside so you'll definitely lose track of time. Bring your girlfriend, side piece or mistress and you'll be able to spend quality time without being interrupted. I highly recommend this place any night of the week to sit back and relax and throw back a few drinks. Bring in with you or order your own food from outside once you get there. Great laid back service from the staff. When you arrive just chill and relax and just know that everything is going to be alright. And they also are offer packaged goods to go when ever you are ready to leave. Try this place and have a nice quiet time.
